Everyone would have heard about the famous book “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People“. It is a self-help book written by Stephen Covey. Covey has been successful in presenting the approach of being effective in attaining your goals.

By effectiveness, Covey means that one should create that balance between obtaining the desired results and also caring for what can produce those results. In this book, he has explained effectiveness in terms of the P/PC ratio, where P refers to getting the desired results, while PC is caring for what can produce those results.

Covey has argued on what people call “the personality ethic.” He is promoting “the character ethic” in this book.

According to Covey, there are two perspectives of anything in life. One is your way, and the other is the correct way. When it comes to two different persons, then both of them would be having different perspectives about one thing.

Do you get bored by reading a whole book? Here I am with a short summary of the book so that you can inculcate the 7 habits of highly effective people, and get success in life.

  1. Sharpen The Saw

The saw here is your body. You have to take care of your body as well as make it ready for everything. You should know your limits, and also when to push them. Do not work yourself to death. You must strive for a sustainable lifestyle. You must give enough time to your body for recharging in order to stay effective for the long-term.

  2. Be Proactive

It is the usual mentality of every individual to create influence on the world. There is no need for you to spend most of your time reacting to external circumstances and events. You have to take charge of your own life and work as per your responsibilities. Instead of focusing on what we can’t change, one should focus on what is in their hands.

  3. Begin With The End In Mind

A person could succeed only with a goal in mind. Don’t spend your life working without any goal in life. If you have no goal, then you cannot move ahead in life. You have to align your actions as per your goals to make it into reality. Have a vision filled with logic and imagination. A life without a goal is useless.

  4. First Things First

Priority is important in life. You need to prioritize your work as per its importance and urgency. Put those things first in your priority list, which brings you closer to your vision. Do not get distracted by the tasks that are not urgent, as well as not important. Have a look at the chart given below to understand it in a better way.

  5. Think Win-Win

This situation should be kept in mind while negotiating. Win-Win is considered to be a perfect outcome for a negotiation. Whenever you are negotiating, do not think about getting the biggest slice of the cake, instead, find a division that is equal and acceptable for all the parties. This will give you a fair share as well as enhance a positive relationship with others.

  6. First Understand, Then Expect To Be Understood

When someone argues or presents a problem in front of us, we directly jump to answering them or providing solutions. This is not the correct method. First, you need to take your time and understand their problem or argument properly. Instead of solutions, it is much better to provide recommendations. When you understand others, others will try to understand you.

  7. Synergize

If you want to go fast, then you must go alone. If you want to go far, then you need a team. It becomes easy to achieve difficult goals with the help of a team. It is rightly said, “The whole is more than the sum of its parts.” This is the perfect statement to make people understand the meaning of teamwork in a better way.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are listed above. The people who have adopted them have proven to be successful in life. Now, the ball is in your court. You need to decide whether you want to be effective in life, or just live a normal life like the others.
