The modern eyes of the world – CCTV

The full form of CCTV is Closed-Circuit Television. People also know it by the name of Video Surveillance. The footage that the CCTV records could be transmitted to a place where the surveillance room has been made. The signals could be varied as point-to-point (P2P), point-to-multipoint (P2MP), mesh wired links or even wireless links. The use of CCTV is usually made in banks, storage facilities, places where valuable items are kept or any other area that needs security.

Nowadays the term CCTV has become very common because it is used at almost all the places for public surveillance also. There are CCTV’s installed at traffic signals also. This is very common. But very few people know about the different types of CCTV cameras. Let us discuss the types of CCTV cameras that are available in the market as well the types which are not yet out in the market.

Types of CCTV Cameras

  • Dark Fighter Technology Cameras:
    These cameras can get colored images in very low light conditions. These cameras can be used in the daytime as well as the night time. It does not require an extra source of light which makes it perfect for night time surveillance.
    Benefits:
    -> High definition.
    -> Smart features like face detection, audio, and line crossing.
  • LPR/ANPR Cameras:
    These cameras are usually used to read the number plates of vehicles and also store it. These cameras provide a great solution to car parking and tolling issues. LPR stands for License Plate cameras and ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition. These cameras offer a clear image of the vehicles even in a high traffic area.
    Benefits:
    -> Store information of the number plates.
    -> It could identify the cars that have been banned from that area.
  • PTZ – Pan, Tilt and Zoom Camera:
    PTZ Cameras allows the camera to move from left to right (panning), moving up and down (tilting) and also zooming in and out. These cameras are usually used at places where there is a security guard who is continuously monitoring the surveillance system.
    Benefits:
    -> IR night vision of up to 200 m.
    -> Optical zoom up to ×36.
    -> Image resolution of very high quality.
  • Discreet Cameras:
    These cameras are used to capture footage of theft and criminal activities because it is not even known by the criminals that there is any camera. It works like a hidden camera. These cameras could be placed in different objects like clothes, pen, briefcase and many more.
    Benefits:
    -> It could be disguised by keeping in different objects.
    -> Very effective for indoor usage.
  • Thermal Image Cameras:
    These cameras are one of the best surveillance cameras around seaports, airports and other places where it is required to capture high-quality images. There are small LED lights in Infrared cameras which help to capture movement pictures while the Thermal Image Cameras can capture images from a distance of 300 m.
    Benefits:
    -> Working well in low light.
    -> Capture images from 250-300 m.
  • Varifocal Cameras:
    These cameras can zoom in and out and focus without comprising with the quality. It offers the feature to change the focal length, adjust the angle as well as zoom in or zoom out. Varifocal cameras are useful at a place where there comes a ‘dead zone’ in a square room.
    Benefits:
    -> Ability to cover ‘dead zones’ which are left out by other cameras.
    -> Excellent level of focus.
  • Network Cameras:
    As the name suggests, these cameras could be accessed all over the internet as the cameras are connected in a network. Network Cameras can be used ideally for commercial and domestic purposes. They are also known as IP Cameras, and they are widely used in the whole world now.
    Benefits:
    -> CCTV footage could be accessed very easily.
    -> It requires low maintenance and very less cabling.

The use of CCTV has increased to catch criminals and reduce the crime rate. CCTV is considered to be the modern eyes of the world.
